Our class is growing so much already in first grade! Take home books will be sent home starting this week! Please read the information that comes in the bag with the book! Thank you for reading daily with your child!
This week in literacy, we will…
Understand that some letters represent vowel sounds
Hear and identify short vowel sounds in words
Read Jumping into the Leaves by Winnie Tucker. We will use and recognize long vowel sounds in words and notice periods, commas, question marks and exclamation marks. We will also talk about how the character changed or learned a lesson in the story.
Read a poem titled, Autumn Leaves
Read books about fall including,
Participate in Heggerty Phonological Awareness Lessons
Learn proper letter formation for the Magic C letter s. We will also add “s” to the end of words to make them plural
In writing this week, we will…
Start our unit on opinion writing and writing reviews
Share our opinions about different topics with others
Explain our reasoning/evidence behind our opinions
Understand the components of writing an opinion piece
In math this week, we will…
- Recognize the number of objects in a collection of 6 or fewer
- Solve addition problems by counting on
- Use >, <, and = symbols to compare
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively
- Count up to 20 objects to answer "how many?" questions.
- Add within 20
In Science this week, we will…
Continue to learn about animals we see in the fall.
Use the online resource PebbleGo to learn even more about the fall animals.
Begin a new science unit about land and water! We will begin learning about different types of landforms.
