Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.
Read the story School’s First Day of School, by Adam Rex. While reading, we will make text-to-self connections. We will also identify how the school changed from the beginning to the end of the story, including making inferences about its feelings.
Distinguish the short /a/ vowel sound.
Read a poem titled, “Rat-a-Tat Cat”. We will highlight words we know and identify words containing short /a/ vowel sounds.
Co-create a classroom name chart.
Learn and practice routines and procedures for literacy centers.

Participate in collaborative conversations with partners about the read aloud books Schools First Day of School, First Day Jitters, and Giraffes Can’t Dance
This week in math, we will….
Construct double-stick popsicles; observe patterns in counting by 2’s; create a popsicle graph; observe and record findings.
Introduce 3 Workplaces utilizing unifix cubes, pattern blocks, and dominoes.
Observe and predict patterns on the calendar grid; introduce the “Days in School” chart; begin collection of penny and nickel coins.
