This week in literacy, we will...
- Decode and spell one-syllable words with the /ou/ spelling pattern.
- Read irregularly spelled words (after, pull, goes, laugh).
- Review contractions.
- Read and write compound words.
- Read a poem titled The Itsy, Bitsy, Spider. While reading, we will locate words with /ou/, We will also discuss what the spider is doing in the poem, and use context to understand unfamiliar vocabulary such as waterspout and itsy-bitsy.
- Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Lessons.
This week in writing, we will...
Continue working on non-fiction books.
Add interesting introductions and conclusions to our books.
Make sure we are including a lot of details, by adding comparisons and expanding sentences.
This week in math, we will...
- Solve story problems with sums to 20, involving situations of adding to and putting together, with unknowns in all positions.
- Tell time to the hour and half hour on an analog clock.
- Identify how much time has elapsed.
- Compare numbers 0-20.
This week in social studies, we will...
- Begin a new unit about United States symbols.
- Learn about maple syrup with a volunteer, Mr. Hammen. We will get to tap a tree in our outdoor classroom in the near future!
