This week in literacy, we will…

  • Learn about synonyms and antonyms.

  • Identify and describe characters.

  • Retell a story by recalling, in order, important details about characters, setting, and events.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Finish our From Scenes to Series writing unit

  • Make an “About the Author” page

  • Share our completed series with our classmates


This week in math, we will….

  • Create our own data and graphs

  • Practice reading and answering questions with graphs

  • Determine more, less, and equal to with graphs 

This week in science we will…. 

  • Explore animals on PebbleGo in order to learn more about different types of animals

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Review sound-spellings for ou, ow, au, and aw

  • Read irregularly spelled words (our, about, done, were).

  • Read a poem titled, Little Raindrops. We will review contractions, compound words and reading with expression. 

  • Read a book titled, Squawk, by Nicole Walker. We will infer reasons for the main character's actions and feelings. We will also understand big ideas or messages of the story. 

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.  

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue our From Scenes to Series writing unit

  • Share our first story with a partner to celebrate the hard work we’ve done!

  • Zoom in on our characters and include a lot of descriptive words to tell what the characters are doing

  • Include tiny, realistic details in our writing by including adjectives and verbs


This week in math, we will….

  • Practice coding in our number corner book with TAD the frog. 

  • Start making our paper gliders and recording our flights

  • Use fractions such as ⅓ and ½ to help fold our paper gliders

  • Compare our glider flights measurements

  • Using number clues  to color codes to reveal a secret picture! 

This week in science we will….          

  • Continue our Life Cycles unit

  • Learn about amphibians, insects and spiders

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Continue working on reading and spelling words with the long e sound spelled with y, ey, and ie.

  • Read and write multisyllabic words.

  • Read irregularly spelled words (was, come, want, many). USE WORDS THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR STUDENTS

  • Read a poem titled, The Donkey. We will find words will ey and y spelling patterns.

  • Read a book titled, Snail's Big Adventure, by David Earl. We will infer the meaning of events from a snail's perspective.  We will also recognize words with -ed and -ing endings.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons. 

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue our From Scenes to Series writing unit

  • Work on including dialogue and action in our writing by unfreezing people and making them move and talk

  • Revise our writing to make it even better!


This week in math, we will….

  • Play with the change box and determine patterns that are happening when a number goes in the box and a new number comes out!

  • Practice coding in our number corner book with TAD the frog. 

  • Start making our paper gliders and recording our flights

  • Use fractions such as ⅓ and ½ to help fold our paper gliders

This week in science we will….

  • Continue our Life Cycles unit
  • Learn about fish, reptiles, birds and mammals.

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish long e and short e vowel sounds. 

  • Know the vowel team sound-spellings for long e (y, ey and ie).

  • Read irregularly spelled words (also, myself, off, seven).

  • Build fluency by reading a book titled, My Super Silly Story. We will identify the humor in the story and use details to tell why. 

  • Compare and contrast sentences and phrases.

  • Infer a lesson from reading a folktale titled, The Creaky House. We also infer feelings of characters and notice sound words in the text.

  • Read a poem titled, Baby Bumblebee.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons. 

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue our From Scenes to Series writing unit

  • Begin writing a series of books about our same main character

  • Write a lot of different adventures with our character

  • Organize the books in our series in an order that makes sense


This week in math, we will….

  • Discuss time, specifically seconds, minutes, and an hour

  • Sort tasks based on how much time they will take to complete

  • Students will be introduced to the “change box” A number goes into the change box and a new number comes out. Students must determine what pattern is happening in the box to get the new number. 

This week in science we will….        

  • Begin a new unit on Life Cycles

  • Investigate how a plant grows and changes
