Dear Parents and Guardians,
A reminder that Friday, September 17th is an early release day! I am excited for a great week! Math homework will be sent home Monday and is due Friday.
This week in literacy, we will…
Learn that some words sound the same at the beginning
Connect words that sound the same at the beginning
Change the first sound in a word to make a new word
Read a poem titled, Five Little Leaves
Learn that verbs are action words
Read Splish, Plop, Leap by Margie Sigman. We will notice verbs in the text and count syllables in words. Additionally, we will notice ending punctuation marks.
Learn new literacy centers including, Writing Center, Listen to Reading and Word Work
Read books about friends including, No David by David Shannon, Fox Makes Friends by Adam Relf and The Invisible Boy, by Trudy Ludwig
In writing this week, we will…
Continue writing about the small moments that happened in our lives
Find small “seed” topics to write about
Write with partners and help each other make our stories even better
Include end marks such as periods, exclamation points, and question marks to add expression in our writing
“Unfreeze” our characters by making them move and talk
Make our characters think and feel by including dialogue and speech/thought bubbles
In math this week, we will…
Count up to 20 objects in a line or array
Count objects by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s
Use number racks to subitize and build numbers up to 20
Add within 20
Learn a new workplace called “Flip and Write” and practice correctly writing our numbers
Solve for the unknown in and equation: 10 + ___ = 12
In Social Studies this week, we will…
Begin our School Unit
We will listen to books about learning and working together, including Miss Nelson is Missing and Jamaica’s Blue Marker
Learn the difference between rules and laws
Learn what it means to be a good citizen
Many items will come home in your child's red folder (take home folder), please help your child become responsible for bringing their red take home folder to and from school each day. If you have a note with a change of going home plan, please feel free to send it to school in your child's red folder. Please also send your child with a daily snack!
