This week in literacy, we will…
Learn the letter-sound correspondences for the long vowel teams ee and ea. where the two vowels make the long vowel sound.
Learn that the two vowels e-e and e-a make a single vowel sound
Learn that syllables that contain the ee and ea vowel team are called vowel combinations
Read Lots of Snow, by Joan Silver. While reading, we will read repeating phrases with intonation and adjust our voices while reading dialogue to reflect the characters' emotions. We will make predictions, infer characters' feelings and discuss the problem and solution in the story. We will also recognize contractions in the text and take apart compound words to read two smaller words
Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons
In Writing this week, we will…
Celebrate reaching our all school pride ticket goal with a snowman Olympics! Each day we will do a different activity/celebration at this time!
In math this week, we will…
Represent addition and subtraction on a number line
Mentally find the number that is 10 more or 10 less than a given 2-digit number, without counting
Recognize and extend number patterns
Read numerals to 120
Count by 10s to 100
Order numerals to 120

Begin an engineering Rokenbok unit
Learn about the “Rok Blocks” we will use to build structures
Explore the relationship between weight, strength, load and reinforcement
Learn how to make our structures strong. We will discuss how to make work easier by planning, building, testing, and improving on a flatbed truck we make out of Rok Blocks
Build a castle wall and design a way to make it stronger
