This week in literacy, we will...
- Learn that a noun names a person, place, thing, or idea
- Learn that proper nouns name specific people, places, and things. Proper nouns are always capitalized
- Learn that the vowel combination -igh has the long i sound, as in high and night
- Read a book titled, Animal Surprises, by Nicole Walker. We will notice and talk about what is important in the text and use nonfiction text features to gain more information. We will also read words with long vowel sounds with silent e, and use context to read and understand unfamiliar words. Finally, we will work on fluent reading by using punctuation marks to read with appropriate intonation and pausing.
- Identify the main idea and supporting details from Animal Surprises during Community Writing time.
- Read a poem titled, I'd Like to Be a Lighthouse. We will identify and read words with the -igh vowel combination.
- Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons

Demonstrate an understanding that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps
