This week in literacy, we will…
Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.
Decode one-syllable words with the short /i/ sound.
Read a poem titled, “Big Black Bug”. We will highlight words containing short /i/ vowel sounds.
Read Chicken Licken, retold by Owen Peterson. We will notice repeating patterns in the story and understand meanings of words by connecting with pictures and context. We will use story elements to make predictions.
Infer the message from the story Chicken Licken and write about it together.
Read words with inflectional endings (-s).
Read and write high frequency words.
Continue to learn and practice routines and procedures for literacy centers.
This week in writing, we will…
Begin our first writing unit on personal narratives
Work on planning our writing by touching and telling, then sketching our ideas, then writing our stories
This week in math, we will….
Group objects by 5’s and 10’s.
Utilize the number rack and ten-frame.
Apply the commutative property while adding.
Solve popsicle stick word problems.
Work on Unit 1 Workplaces.
Demonstrate understanding of using the number rack.
This week in social studies, we will…
Read books about learning and working together
We will begin to learn about citizenship and the difference between rules and laws
i-Ready Testing Begins this week!
We will be taking the reading test on Monday and the math test on Tuesday
Please make sure your child eats a nice breakfast and gets plenty of sleep the night before each test
