This week in literacy, we will...
- Distinguish the short /o/ vowel sound
- Know the sound-spelling for short /o/
- Spell irregularly spelled words (the, to, want, do)
- Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Lessons
- Read and write words ending with double final consonants (ll, ss, and zz)
- Read The Frog Who Couldn't Jump, by Lionel Page. While reading, we will adjust our voices to reflect the characters' emotions and use context to understand the meanings of new words. We will also summarize the problem and solution and infer the main character's personality traits
- Write about our reading of The Frog Who Couldn't Jump, by writing sentences that describe the main character of the story, Homer
- Read a poem titled, "My Big Balloon". We will identify words that have short /o/ sounds and highlight high frequency words we've learned
- Practice routines and procedures for Literacy Centers

Reminders and Upcoming Events:
- **We have library on Tuesdays. Please return library books every Tuesday!
- September 19- Our first math homework will be sent home. Math homework is sent home on Mondays and is due on Fridays.
- **Continue the great work with reading the words on the word lists. When reading the words, children should be fluent (not have to sound the words out). Take your time with the lists and send them back to school when your child feels confident reading all the words.
- September 21- Picture Day
- September 23- Early Release Day (1:45)
