A friendly reminder that we are halfway through the school year. Your student should be about halfway done (13 lists) with their take home sight word lists!
This week in literacy, we will…
Continue learning about the vowel team sound-spellings for long o (oa, ow, silent e).
Read and write words ending with the suffixes -ful and -less.
Read a book titled The Farmer and the Crow. We will infer a lesson from the story, and retell important events.
Read a poem titled, The Snowman. We will highlight words with -ow sounds and compound words in the poem.
Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.
This week in writing, we will…
Continue working on our how-to writing unit
Learn about how we need to include a list of materials at the beginning of our pieces and include commas in the list of items
Learn about the importance of including very specific details in order to teach our readers
This week in math, we will….
Play Shape detectives
Walk around the school on a 3D shape hunt
Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between the defining and non-defining attributes of 3D shapes
Play “Whats in my bag?”
Create our own 3D shapes
This week in social studies we will….
Start a new unit “Celebrating America”
Learn about the White House
Learn about why we celebrate independence day
Learn about important people such as Benjamin Franklin, Harriet Tubman, and more!
