This week in literacy, we will…
Continue learning about the vowel team sound-spellings ee, ea, and silent e.
Identify the elements of a sentence and understand the use of a comma.
Read a poem titled, Cap, Mittens, Shoes, and Socks to the tune of "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes". We will categorize words and locate words we know in the poem.
Read a book titled, The Gingerbread Girl. by Jack Henry Paris. We will infer a lesson from this folktale. We will notice aspects of dialogue and decide how it should sound and how it adds to the story. Finally, we will infer the characters' feelings.
Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.
This week in writing, we will…
Learn about our new writing unit, How-To writing
Create a list of things we could teach others
Begin our first How-To piece!
This week in math, we will….
Start Unit 5
Organize data with up to 3 categories
Identify, name, describe, compare two-dimensional shapes including triangles, rectangles, hexagons, and trapezoids
Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between the defining and non-defining attributes of a two-dimensional shape
Draw a two-dimensional shape with specific defining attributes
Learn and Play “Last Shape Wins”
This week in science we will….
Start a Rokenbok engineering unit.
Manipulate ROK Blocks to build structures (bridges, trucks, and castles).
Explore a specific problem engineers often face (how to make things stronger).
Understand that pushes on objects can have different strengths and that bigger pushes cause bigger changes in the object.
Test constructions for strength; Try to improve strength by using different designs.
