This week in literacy, we will:
- Use knowledge that every syllable must have a vowel to determine the number of syllables in a word
- Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in single-syllable words
- Learn that a “closed syllable” has one vowel, closed in a consonant, and has a short sound
- Read The Hungry Fly, by Hannah Cales. While reading, we will use repeating patterns to monitor accuracy. We will infer the important idea from the book and make connections between text and labeled photographs. We will also recognize simple plurals, notice and count syllables, and read words with initial consonant clusters.
- Read a poem titled, Little Raindrops. We will talk about syllables, vowel teams and contractions while reading the poem
- Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons
