March 11th Newsletter

 This week in literacy, we will...

• Distinguish and know sound-spellings for the diphthong /ou/.
• Read irregularly spelled words (after, pull, goes, laugh).
• Read a book titled, The Parade is in Town. While reading, we will use details from the text to infer the characters' feelings and provide text evidence to support our inferences. 
• Read and write compound words.
• Review contractions. 
• Read a poem titled, The Itsy, Bitsy Spider. We will identify high frequency words and words with /ou/ sounds in the poem. 
• Read a book titled Zoom In and Out, by Amanda Yskamp. While reading, we will infer the writer's purpose and message. We will also make connections between the body of the text and features.
• Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

 This week in writing, we will...

• Continue working on our non-fiction writing.

• Add drawings, labels, and captions to our writing in order to provide additional information for our readers.

 

This week in math, we will...

• Compare pairs of 2-digit numbers using <, =, and > symbols.

• Add with sums to 100.

• Explain the reasoning behind a strategy used to add with sums to 100.

• Express the length of an object as a whole number of units.

 

This week in science, we will...

• Start a new unit on weather.

• Learn about the four seasons.

• Learn about the four different types of precipitation.
