This week students are starting their maple syrup activities with the Thorson Green Squad! They will all be going into the school forest to tap a maple tree this week. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing! I am predicting it will be muddy!

This week in literacy, we will…
Distinguish short oo and long oo vowel sounds.
Know sound-spellings for short oo and long oo.
Read irregularly spelled words (about, write, word, done).
Read a story titled, Books, Books, Books. While reading, we will build fluency and use context to confirm word meanings. Finally, we will answer questions about the book and find details in the text or illustrations to support our ideas.
Read and write words with suffixes (ly and y).
Read a poem titled, Moon, Moon. While reading, we will identify words that rhyme and highlight words with long oo sounds.
Read a book titled, Woof! Woof! by Armand Benedict. We will retell major events from the story and make predictions about what we think will happen next.
Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.
This week in writing, we will…
Continue working on our non-fiction writing
Learn about adjectives and how we can expand our sentences and make them stronger by adding describing words
Organize our writing by grouping facts together that go together
Create a table of contents and include headings in our non-fiction writing
This week in math, we will….
Solve addition story problems with sums to 20 involving situations of adding to and putting together, with unknowns in all positions
Use strategies to add with sums to 20
Solve for the unknown in an addition equation involving 3 whole numbers
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
Solve equations and determine if they are true or false
This week in social studies we will….
Learn about traditions and how they bring us together
Learn about respecting differences so we are able to get along with each other
