September 20th Newsletter

 

September 20, 2021

I am looking forward to a great week ahead! Thanks for your continued support at home! A reminder that library books are due back every Monday. 


This week in literacy, we will…


  • Learn that some words sound the same at the end

  • Connect words that sound the same at the ending

  • Change the last sound in a word to make a new word

  • Read a poem titled, My Apple

  • Write a class poem about fall

  • Read Bigger and Bigger and Bigger by Tess Fletcher, during which we will learn that in nonfiction texts, information may be provided in different formats and places. We will also use contextual information to understand new words. 

  • Continue reading books about friends including, Leon and Bob by Simon James, The Magic Rabbit by Annette LaBlanc Cate and Chester’s Way, by Kevin Henkes

  • Practice routines for Literacy Centers


In writing this week, we will…

  • Bring “what’s inside out” by making our characters move, think, feel, and talk

  • Discuss how to add drama into our stories to make them more realistic

  • Use words we DO know how to spell to help us spell new unfamiliar words

  • Understand how the use of capital letters and end marks help reading fluency

  • Study the ways that authors make their stories special and try those techniques in our own writing 


In math this week, we will…

  • Solve addition story problems with sums to 20

  • Count objects by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s

  • Use number racks to subitize and build numbers up to 20

  • Add within 20

  • Learn a new workplace called “Flip and Write” and practice correctly writing our numbers

  • Solve for the unknown in and equation: 10 + ___ = 12

  • Identify pennies and nickels and their worth

  • Represent a number of objects with a written numeral up to 120

  • Learn the workplace “Which Coin will win” 


In Social Studies this week, we will…

  • This week in Social Studies, we will continue to learn about citizenship.  We will learn the difference between laws and rules and the qualities of good citizens.
