September 27th Newsletter

 

September 27, 2021

I am looking forward to a great week ahead! Thanks for your continued support at home! A reminder that library books are due back every Monday. 


This week in literacy, we will…


  • Recognize the sequence of letters in a word

  • Hear and say the same middle sound in words

  • Read a poem titled, The Wise Old Owl

  • Write “Picture Day” advice during Community Writing time

  • Read Scram! by Julie Reich. We will use familiar word parts to figure out new words, make predictions based on repeating episodes in the story and infer characters’ feelings from dialogue, text, and pictures

  • Read, Perfect Square by Michael Hall and The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson 

  • Start participating in guided reading groups (?)


In writing this week, we will…

  • Write the exact actions of our characters

  • Write with POP-OUT words to help our readers read with expression

  • Recognize similar and different craft moves that a variety of authors use

  • Use all we know so far to revise and edit our work 

*We will also be showing what we know in our first Writing On-Demand session. 



In math this week, we will…


  • Solve addition story problems with sums to 20

  • Count objects by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s

  • Use number racks to subitize and build numbers up to 20

  • Add within 20

  • Represent a number of objects with a written numeral up to 120

  • Measure the length of an object

  • Express the length of an object as a whole number of units

  • Solve subtraction problems by finding an unknown addend

  • Solve subtraction problems by counting back


In Social Studies this week, we will…

  • This week in Social Studies, we will continue to learn about citizenship.  We will learn the difference between laws and rules and the qualities of good citizens.
