May 30th Newsletter

 

May 30-June 2, 2023



This week in literacy, we will…

  • Read a book titled Not Ladybugs by Andrea Delbanco. While reading, we will notice simple plurals, take apart compound words, and recognize words with consonant clusters. We will also infer the author's purpose and use details from illustrations to support ideas. 

  • Write a response to reading. 

  • Change beginning sounds to make a new word.

  • Read a poem titled, The Smile Song.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Begin working on a first grade memory book

This week in math, we will….

  • Survey students in our class to collect data. We will use our survey results to:

    • Sort data in many different ways.

    • Represent data on a tally chart and bar graph.

    • Ask and answer questions about data.

  • Compare the weight of two objects using a balance scale. 

  • Count by 10's off the decade (6,16,26,36...)

  • Add and subtract 9, 10, and 11 from any number within 120. We will use the 120 grid to help us!


This week and next week in science we will….

  • Learn about different types of animals including: amphibians, mammals, fish, birds, and reptiles


Important Dates to Remember!

  • May 30- Return all library books if you haven’t done so already!

  • June 1 - Turn off the lights day - bring a flashlight!
