January 18th Newsletter

 

January 18th, 2021


This week in literacy, we will… 

  • Read Captain Brock, Firefighter by Andrea Delbanco. While reading, we will search for and use information in the body of the text as well as in labels and sidebars. We will read words with blends and digraphs and recognize compound words

  • Recognize and use contractions with is

  • Write about activities we do in winter during community writing time

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Lessons


In Writing this week, we will…

  • Practice spelling domain-specific words

  • Set writing goals to make our writing better

  • Edit our work by including end marks, capital letters, and other punctuation marks 

  • Create a Table of Contents 


In math this week, we will…

  •  Represent addition and subtraction  on a number line

  •  Demonstrate an understanding that multiples of 10 from 10 to 90 refer to some number of tens and 0 ones

  •  Add a multiple of 10 (up to 80) and another 2-digit number, using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, or the relationship between addition and subtraction

  • Subtract a 2-digit multiple of 10 from an equal or greater 2-digit multiple of 10, using drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, or the relationship between addition and subtraction

  • Explain the reasoning behind a strategy used to subtract a 2-digit multiple of 10 from an equal or greater 2-digit multiple of 10


This week during our Social Studies we will…

  • Learn about Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Learn about the United States

  • Complete a map of the USA, using labels and talking a closer look at the oceans, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin
