February 14, 2022

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Learn the letter-sound correspondences for ow and ou, where the two letters make the /ou/ sound, as in cow and cloud 

  • Learn the letter-sound correspondences for the vowel teams oi and oy, where the two vowels make the /oi/ sound, as in coin and boy

  • Read a book titled Scrunch the Caterpillar by Stephen Krensky. While reading, we will identify how characters change throughout the story and a lesson we can learn from the characters. We will also understand the meaning of past tense verbs with -ed endings and clap syllables in words. 

  • Read a poem titled “Out”.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons

In Writing this week, we will… 

  • Continue researching topics to teach others about

  • Use craft moves in our writing to make our writing more interesting

  • Edit our work using an editing checklist

  • Read our chapter books to partners 


In math this week, we will… 

  • Identify and name three-dimensional shapes including pyramids 

  • Build a three-dimensional shape with specific defining attributes 

  • Create a composite shape by compositing 2-D shapes

  • Understand and define the difference between  the defining and non-defining attributes of a 3D shape

  • Take a 3D shape checkpoint



This week during our Social Studies we will…

  • Continue to learn about the winter Olympics events and Olympians!
