March 14, 2022

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Construct and read words containing short vowel closed syllables and long vowel Silent e syllables

  • We will notice Silent e and closed syllable spelling patterns that help read and spell longer words

  • Read a book titled, The Big Surprise by Pat McCann. While reading, we will tell the major events of the story and infer the feelings of the characters. We will also recognize verbs with -ed endings.

  • Read a poem titled, Jack-in-the-box. We will look for words with open and closed syllables and read words with vowel combinations.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons


In Writing this week, we will… 

  • Finish our How-To books in class

  • Share our How-To Projects with the class 




In math this week, we will… 

  •  Apply the commutative property of addition to add

  •  Solve subtraction problems by finding an unknown addend

  •  Use the relationship between addition and subtraction to add and subtract within 20

  •  Use strategies to add and subtract within 20

  • Solve for the unknown in an addition or subtraction equation involving 3 whole numbers

  •  Reason abstractly and quantitatively


In Social Studies this week, we will begin a new unit on Our Country.  We will…

  • Learn about North America and how it is made up of many different counties

  • Learn about the 50 states that make up the United States
