March 28, 2022

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Review the letter-sound correspondences for long vowel combinations ay, ai, ee, ea, ie, oa, oo, ou, ow, au and aw

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Lessons

  • Read a book titled Squawk, by Nicole Walker. While reading, we will understand big ideas or messages in the story and infer the characters' feelings. 

  • Read a poem titled Sing a Rainbow. We will read color words and find words with long vowel combinations in the poem.

In Writing this week, we will… 

  • Write and share about the things we did over Spring Break

  • Begin our Poetry Unit

  • Make a “Poet-tree” in which we discuss several poem types/styles. Specifically this week, we will explore Color Poems and I-Wish Poems


In math this week, we will… 

  • Solve addition problems by counting on

  • Add fluently with sum to 10

  • Add with sums to 20 

  • Model with mathematics

  • Recognize the number of objects in a collection of 6 of fewer

  • Use >, <, = symbols to record comparisons


In Social Studies this week, we will continue our Our Country unit.  We will…

  • Use a map of the United States to locate states, oceans, and our neighboring countries

  • Begin learning about important US symbols including the Liberty Bell, the American flag, Mount Rushmore, The White House, and the Washington Monument
