Sept. 1-2, 2022



This week in literacy, we will…

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

  • Read the story School’s First Day of School, by Adam Rex. While reading, we will make text-to-self connections. We will also identify how the school changed from the beginning to the end of the story, including making inferences about its feelings.

  • Distinguish the short /a/ vowel sound.

  • Read a poem titled, “Rat-a-Tat Cat”. We will highlight words we know and identify words containing short /a/ vowel sounds.

  • Co-create a classroom name chart.

  • Learn and practice routines and procedures for literacy centers.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Participate in collaborative conversations with partners about the read aloud books Schools First Day of School, First Day Jitters, and Giraffes Can’t Dance

This week in math, we will….

  • Construct double-stick popsicles; observe patterns in counting by 2’s; create a popsicle graph; observe and record findings.

  • Introduce 3 Workplaces utilizing unifix cubes, pattern blocks, and dominoes.

  • Observe and predict patterns on the calendar grid; introduce the “Days in School” chart; begin collection of penny and nickel coins.


This week in social studies, we will…

  • Learn more about our classmates

  • Take turns sharing our bags of our favorite things


Important Dates to Remember!

  • Sept. 5- No School (Labor Day)

  • Sept. 6- Bring "All About Me Bag" to school if you haven't already

  • Sept. 21- Picture Day

  • Sept. 23- Early Release Day (1:45)
