September 6th Newsletter

 

Sept. 6-9, 2022



This week in literacy, we will…

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

  • Read a poem titled, “Dig a Little Hole”. We will highlight rhyming words and identify words containing short /a/ vowel sounds.

  • Read Peanut Butter and Cupcake by Terry Border. We will discuss the theme of the story, friendship, and participate in a getting to know you activity.

  • Hear and say rhyming words.

  • Read Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks. We will listen for rhyming words, make predictions, and enjoy a silly story!

  • Read, build and write high frequency words.

  • Learn and practice routines and procedures for literacy centers.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue oral storytelling by sharing our bag items with our classmates

  • Create a heart map listing all of the things we love

  • Share the heart map we create with our classmates



This week in math, we will….

  • Count forward and backward by 1’s and 2’s and 5’s; count to 120;  solve problems using the twin pops.

  • Introduce 2 new Workplaces:  polydrons and geoboards & bands.

  • Begin collection of tallies, sticks and tiles; introduce the number line pocket chart; update the calendar collector / days in school chart


This week in social studies, we will…

  • Learn more about our classmates

  • Continue sharing our bags with our favorite things

  • Learn about classroom and school rules


Important Dates to Remember!

  • Sept. 5- No School (Labor Day)

  • Sept. 6- Bring "All About Me Bag" to school if you haven't already

  • Sept. 21- Picture Day

  • Sept. 23- Early Release Day (1:45)
