February 6th Newsletter

 

Feb. 6th-10th, 2023

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish long u and short u vowel sounds.

  • Know vowel team sound-spellings for ew and ue

  • Read irregularly spelled words (could, would, their, together).

  • Identify the elements of a sentence.

  • Review the use of periods and question marks.

  • Read and write compound words.

  • Read a poem titled, How much Dew?

  • Read a nonfiction book about how animals adapt to cold weather. While reading, we will notice words with word endings (-er). We will also become aware that nonfiction text features are provided in different places and formats and make connections between text, illustrations, and print features.

  • Read Jake’s 100th Day of School, by Lester Laminak.


This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue our How To writing

  • Use a revising and editing rubric to make our writing the best it can be!

  • Make sure our how-to books have detailed pictures, a great introduction and a conclusion.

  • Please continue working on your how-to at home presentation.  We will be sharing them with the class next week!

This week in math, we will….

  • Identify, name, describe, compare three-dimensional shapes including cubes, rectangular prisms, and triangular prisms

  • Build a three-dimensional shape with specific defining attributes

  • Create a composite shape by composing three-dimensional shapes and compare and new shape using composite three-dimensional shapes

  • Create a composite shape by composing two-dimensional shapes

This week in social studies, we will…

  • Continue learning about Our Country

  • Read the book America Is… by Louise Borden and write about what we love about the USA

  • Complete a fun American flag project
