April 24-28th, 2023


This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish long i and long o sounds.

  • Know sound-spellings for long i and long o (ie and oe).

  • Read irregularly spelled words (number, today, special, over).

  • Review the use of quotation marks, commas, and capitalization of proper nouns.

  • Read The Strawberry Hunt, by Joan Silver. While reading, we will discuss personal connections to the characters and events. We will also talk about the story's setting and why it's important.

  • Write a response to reading.

  • Read a poem titled, Sing a Rainbow, and locate color words in the poem. 

  • Use multiple strategies to figure out word meanings.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Finish writing our realistic fiction series

  • Using time words in our writing so that our readers understand what happened first, next and last

  • Revise and edit our stories, using a checklist

  • Create an “About the Author” page

  • Make a special box for our realistic fiction book series

This week in math, we will….

  • Solve addition problems to sums within 20 

  • Apply the commutative and associative properties of addition

  • Use models of benches, flower pots, and fences to add and understand representations

  • Mentally find ten more and ten less than a given number

This week in social studies, we will…

  • Explore what monuments are and why they are important.

  • Describe what monuments help us to remember.

  • Explain which monument would be the best to visit.

  • Draw and write about a monument.


Important Dates to Remember!

  • April 24 - Look for the ABC Countdown sheet to come home in your child’s red folder!  There are a lot of important dates on it!

  • May 1 - Email a baby picture of your child to your child’s teacher on or before May 1st
