This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish long o and short o vowel sounds.

  • Know the vowel team sound-spellings for long o (oa, ow, silent e).

  • Read irregularly spelled words (part, people, more, or).

  • Read a poem titled, Snow, Snow, Fall Away. We will locate words with ow spelling patterns.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Work on our Handwriting Without Tears journals

  • Write about how to catch a gingerbread man

This week in math, we will….

  • Learn and play “Last Shape Wins”

  • Identify, name, describe, compare two-dimensional shapes including triangles, rhombuses, hexagons, and trapezoids

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between the defining and non-defining 

  • Draw a two-dimensional shape with specific defining attributes

  • Create a composite shape by composing two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, trapezoids, triangles, hexagons)


This week in science we will….

  • Continue our Rokenbok engineering unit

  • Create different designs and explore how to make our designs stronger


Important Dates to Remember!

  • January 15 - No school, MLK day

  • January 18 - Last day of 2nd Quarter!

  • January 19 - No school - Professional Development Day for Teachers

  • January 23- Thorson Night at CHS basketball game
