This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish long i and short i vowel sounds.

  • Know the vowel team sound-spellings for long i (igh, y and i_e).

  • Read irregularly spelled words (different, full, into, through).

  • Read and write words using comparatives and superlatives (-er and -est).

  • Read a poem titled Star Light, Star Bright. We will read words with the -igh spelling pattern and highlight high frequency words we know. 

  • Read a book titled, The Hungry Fly, by Hannah Cales. While reading, we will infer important ideas from the text and make connections between text and labeled photos. 

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.


This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue working on our how-to writing unit

  • Transfer our one page how-to writing pieces to create complete books

  • Include transition words in our how-to writing pieces

  • Revise and edit our how-to writing

This week in math, we will….

  • Add Fluently with sums to 20

  • Identify, name, describe squares

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between the defining and non-defining attributes of a three-dimensional shape

  • Create a composite shape by composing two-dimensional shapes

  • Create patterns while making quilt squares

  • Create fractions out of circles and squares including 1/2 ,¼, and ¾ 

This week in social studies we will….

  •  Learn about the constitution and why it is important to America

  • Learn about the symbols of America
