April 1st, 2024

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Blend sounds to produce words.

  • Review sound-spellings for long vowel teams and r-controlled vowels.

  • Read a story titled, The Right Spot, by Judy Gifford. We will discuss the characters, problems, and events in the story. We will also make personal connections and infer the author's purpose.

  • Read a poem titled, Sing a Rainbow

  • Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details. 

  • Build fluency when reading books containing long vowel teams. These books are titled, Jean's Team, Gail's Snail, Toads, and Sail Boats.

 

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue working on our non-fiction writing

  • Use a rubric to revise and edit our non-fiction books independently and with a partner

  • Use books and online resources to research our topics in order to help us get new ideas and learn new things


This week in math, we will….

  • Start Unit 7 

  • Take Unit 7 pretest

  • Count by 10s to 100

  • Group and count objects by 10s

  •  Demonstrate an understanding that the digits in a 2-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones

  • Demonstrate an understanding that 10 can be thought of a bundle or group of 10 ones, called a ten

  • Demonstrate an understanding that multiples of 10 from 10 to 90 refer to some number of tens and 0 one

  • Demonstrate an understanding that 100 can be thought of a bundle or group of 10 tens, called a hundred

This week in science we will….

  • Continue our weather unit

  • Learn about weather vanes, windsocks and rain gauges
