March 18th Newsletter

 

March 18th, 2024


This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish and know the sound-spellings for the diphthong /oi/.

  • Read irregularly spelled words (four, any, better, only).

  • Read a book titled, Join a Club. We will retell the main events from the story and share our opinion about clubs we read about in the story.

  • Identify the elements of a sentence and review the use of question marks.

  • Read and write multisyllabic words. 

  • Read a book titled Zip, Zip, Zip, by Andrea Young. While reading, we will notice and talk about important information in a nonfiction text. 

  • Read a poem titled, Four Seasons. We will identify adjectives in the poem.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

 

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue working on our non-fiction writing

  • Learn about how to write a strong introduction and conclusion in our non-fiction books

  • Learn about transition words and make sure we are including them in our books


This week in math, we will….

  • Compare pairs of 2-digit numbers

  • Add with sums to 100

  • Explain the reasoning behind a strategy used to add with sums to 100

  • Express the length of an object as a whole number of units

  • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them

  • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others

  • Compare pairs of 2-digit numbers, and use >, =, and < symbols to record the comparisons

This week in science we will….

  • Continue our weather unit

  • Learn about the four different types of precipitation: rain, snow, sleet and hail and the type of weather that happens with each of them

  • Learn about meteorologists and weather tools
