May 8th Newsletter

 

May 8th-12th, 2023


This week in literacy, we will…

  • Identify syllables in one- or two-syllable words. 

  • Look at syllables in words to read it. 

  • Read a poem titled, Little Raindrops.

  • Read The Singing Wolf: An Aesop Fable by Marta Magellan. While reading, we will recognize contractions and read in a way that reflects that dialogue and emotion of the characters. After reading, we will tell the events of the story in sequential order and infer a "lesson" from the story.

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons.

This week in writing, we will…

  • Start a new unit on poetry

  • Learn about what poetry is and why it’s important

  • Write poems using our senses

  • Write shape poems

This week in math, we will….

  • Start Unit 8 on Changes

  • Continue learning about time and elapsed time

  • Discuss how long a second, minute, and hour are

  • Discuss how many seconds are in a minute, how many minutes are in an hour, etc.

  • Discuss our daily routines and at what time we do certain activities like brushing our teeth, sleeping, eating, etc.

  • Learn and play an hour or bust! 

This week in science we will….

  • Continue our nutrition unit

  • Learn about healthy snacks

  • Learn what vitamins and minerals are and why they are important

  • Learn about sugars in our food

  • May 8 - Crazy Sock Day

  • May 12 - Glow Day - Wear White!

  • May 12 - Early Release Day - Students will be dismissed at 1:45pm

  • May 15 - Hat Day

  • May 16 - Interesting Fact Day - Bring an interesting fact to school to share with your classmates!

  • May 16 - Field Trip to Riveredge - Dress for the weather!
