January 9th Newsletter

 

January 9-13, 2022

This week in literacy, we will…

  • Distinguish long e and short e vowel sounds.

  • Read and spell one-syllable words with vowel teams ee and ea.

  • Read irregularly spelled words (find, around, under, wash).

  • Identify elements of a sentence.

  • Compare and contrast adventures and experiences of characters from different versions of The Gingerbread Man. We will also ask and answer questions about key details in the texts.

  • Read a poem titled Hickory, Dickory, Dean. 

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons. 

This week in writing, we will…

  • Continue working on our handwriting books

  • Create a winter story by rolling a dice to figure out who our characters are, where our setting is, and what the problem of our story it, then we will think creatively and create a story

This week in math, we will….

  • Represent addition and subtraction on a number line

  • Recognize and extend number patterns

  •  Order numerals to 120

  • Demonstrate an understanding that multiples of 10 from 10 to 90 refer to some number of tens and 0 ones

  • Learn a new workplace “The Frog Path” 

  • Mentally find the number that is 10 more or 10 less than a given 2-digit number, without counting

This week in science, we will…

  • Learn about how objects move in different ways

  • Complete hands on activities using force and friction
